Human Resources Department Mission Statement:

To provide superior human resources administrative service and support to the employees and retirees of this City and ensure compliance with state, federal, local ordinances, rules, regulations and laws. By doing so, we will enhance the City’s overall work environment thereby increasing its employees’ effectiveness. We will treat our customers with respect and honesty and strive to proactively meet their needs with competence and professionalism. We will conduct ourselves ethically at all times, holding employee record privacy to the highest possible standard.

Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Department provides administrative human resources and employee benefits support to approximately 114 permanent, full-time City employees and approximately 150 retired City employees. HR support is also provided to the 50 - 60 part-time City employees, primarily in the Parks and Recreation Department. In doing so, the Department coordinates hiring new employees, retirement, promotion, salary, wage and benefit administration. The Personnel Department provides clerical support and acts as administrative liaison between City Administration and the Garden City Civil Service Commission. The Commission oversees, through application of their Rules and Regulations the recruitment, qualification and promotion process for the Garden City Police and Fire Department personnel.
