Borrowers must have a Library Network area library card.
Videos and DVDs from the audio-visual shelves that are charged out and returned in one week are free of charge. After that, a rental fee of $1.00 per day will be charged. Non-fiction videos and DVDs that are shelved with the books are free of charge for a three-week loan period. After that, an overdue fee of $1.00 per day will be charged. There is no charge for any holiday or other day that the library is closed.
The user charge for videos and DVDs is paid upon return of the items.
The cardholder must be present at the time of checkout.
If the videos/DVDs are not returned, the patron will be charged for the replacement cost of the item.
No renewals or reserves for videos or DVDs will be taken. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
All movies must be returned to the Garden City Library. Videos and DVDs may be returned in the book drop.
Videos and DVD disks will be inspected for damage when they are returned. If you have a problem with a video, stop the tape and return it to the library for a credit. Do not attempt to repair the video.
Failure to comply with the library's videocassette/DVD policies and procedures may result in suspension of the patron's borrower card.
CARE TIP FOR VIDEOS
ALWAYS REWIND VIDEOS BEFORE RETURNING THEM TO THE LIBRARY
Handle videos with care. Extreme hot or cold temperatures will damage videos. Never place them on top of a television or VCR, or leave them in a car.
Videos and VCR's should be at room temperature for two hours before use. If not, the videos can jam inside the machine, resulting in damage to the VCR.
Videos may become damaged if dropped or thrown.
Never touch the surface of a tape.
Keep videos away from a magnetic field, such as those produced by an electric motor or power transformer.
Many videos have a "stop copy" protection, which is an anti-piracy device. This may cause a vertical roll on your TV, which can be corrected by adjusting the vertical hold control on your TV or the tracking device on your VCR.
"Snow" at the top or bottom of your TV screen can usually be corrected by adjusting the tracking on your VCR.
Report any problems with tapes to library staff.
CARE TIPS AND DISC REMOVAL FOR DVDS
To remove a disc from its case, press the "push here" button on the hub located at the center of disc. Never remove disc by prying its outer edge.
Using your other hand, gently remove the disc by its outer edge.
Do not touch the disc surface.
Do not stack discs.
Make sure the disc is properly seated in the tray before closing the drawer of the DVD player.
Always store the disc inside its case when not in use. Keep away from extreme heat or direct sun. Report any skips or problems to the library staff.
