Fire Department
Garden City maintains one fire station located adjacent to City Hall. The station was constructed in 1965. Garden City is a member of the Western Wayne County Fire Department Mutual Aid Association and through it, of Health Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) Inc.
Our cooperative program of automatic aid for structure fire response with Westland, Inkster, and Wayne is proving highly successful, improving fire ground safety in all participating communities. As a result of the program, improvements have been made in:
- Firefighter Accountability (tracking) systems in all communities
- Interagency communications
- Interagency firefighter survival training and operations
- Interagency Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training and operations
The efforts of our 21 career firefighter-paramedics are augmented by, 2 volunteer fire chaplains and a volunteer fire photographer. Our professional firefighters comprise the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1911.
Knox Box for Residential
Knox Box is not a requirement for residential homes but would be helpful in an emergency situation. Knox Box is a secure box that citizens can purchase and mount to the outside of their home, you would keep emergency information and keys inside the box that only the Fire Department can open. Visit KnoxBox.com for more information.
Knox Box for Businesses
Knox Box is a requirement for businesses and the only authorized unit used in our city. It is a controlled access system. The Fire Department will only make an entry in the event of a fire, alarm activation, medical emergency, or request by the business/property owner.
Contact the Fire Department to schedule a time for the Fire Department to install the entry key and for more information.
