Water Advisory

The lead and copper rule was first adopted as part of the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1991. In June 2018, Michigan revised its water sampling rules to better detect possible lead and copper in your drinking water and to better protect your health. These changes require communities with lead service lines to do more sampling. The new sampling method was expected to result in higher lead levels, not because the water source or quality for residents has changed, but because the Act has more stringent sampling procedures and analysis. The lead and copper rule’s purpose is to protect public health by minimizing lead and copper exposure in drinking water. The Great Lakes Water Authority strives to produce some of the best drinking water in the world and continues to do so today.
